2006 Porsche Cayenne Curt Hitch real person install uncut -Tail light removal and bumper trimming

I’d watch this video in it’s entirety before performing the hitch install if you’ve never done one before. This will make your install go super smooth without issues. I’ve read a lot of forums and reviewed a lot of videos and nothing is as complete as what I’ve made for you. Work performed on a 2006 Porsche Cayenne Base V6. I’m not a professional but have more tools than the ordinary average person. Fast forward to the part you need, I did the following: 1. I remove the tail lights, 2. remove the bumper, 3. remove the aluminum stock bumper, 4. install the Curt hitch, 5. clean up some things while the bumper is off, 6. trim the stock plastic bumper to make room for hitch, 7. test fit, 8. smooth the trim cut, 9. reinstall bumper, 10. reinstall lights, all done. I tried to give as much detail as possible on the items used and amount of screws to take off.

  1. Thanks for the great video. I have followed the steps to remove the bumper on my 9PA1 but found two missing steps.
    – To remove the tail light assembly, you need to use a prying tool or a cloth wrapped screw driver to click open the ball joint lock from the far end before pulling the assembly out.
    – You should pull out the two small rubber piece on each side of the bumper before removing the whole shell. Each rubber piece has a tiny male insert to the body of the car that may break if you pull too hard.

  6. Thank you for taking the time to record this.  Just finished my hitch install on my ’06.  Two hours start to finish with clean up and a run back into the house to watch the size hole you cut in the bumper cover.  I ALMOST missed the "could have probably cut a 4"x8" hole" at the end.  That is what I did and it fit PERFECT.  So, everyone – CUT A 4×8 HOLE!  Thanks again.
